As the UK commits to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, there’s a pressing need for organisations to review their green agenda, while continuing to attract and retain employees. For some employers to achieve this balance, the most attractive option is through a salary sacrifice scheme.
According to a recent report by trade body BVRLA, the number of battery electric vehicles obtained through salary sacrifice schemes has increased by 40% year over year. This growth stems from the government’s low benefit-in-kind rates, which appeal to both employees and companies relying on electric vehicles to achieve their net-zero targets.
PwC was an early adopter of salary sacrifice, launching a scheme with the UK’s leading independent vehicle leasing company Zenith – then Interleasing - in 1999. Since then, the partnership has evolved and strengthened, with PwC utilising Zenith’s expertise to promote eco-friendly vehicle options to its colleagues. This has helped PwC reduce emissions by 90% over the last 15 years, while more than 250 employees have been in the scheme for 15 years or longer.
